Data Analyst Resume Format India: 2026 ATS Keywords
The exact SQL, Power BI, and Python keyword groups recruiters and ATS filters match against, plus the bullet formula that proves real analyst impact.
"Worked with data" is not a keyword — it is the reason you got filtered out
Data analyst job descriptions in India — from GCCs to fintech startups — are unusually specific about tools: SQL dialect, a named BI tool, a scripting language, and a business metric. A resume that says "analyzed data to generate insights" matches almost nothing in that JD.
The fix is not more enthusiasm in your summary. It is naming the exact tools and outputs the way the JD names them, then proving impact with a number.
The keyword map recruiters and parsers are actually scanning for
Group your skills section the way hiring teams group the JD requirements — this also happens to be how most parsers weight repeated terms across categories.
- Query & Warehousing: SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift — name the specific one you have used, not just "SQL" if the JD asks for a data warehouse platform.
- Visualization & Reporting: Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio, Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP) — "Advanced Excel" alone tells a parser nothing; name the actual functions.
- Analysis & Scripting: Python (pandas, NumPy), R, statistical testing — mention the library, not just the language.
- Business Context: KPI dashboards, cohort analysis, A/B testing, stakeholder reporting, revenue/funnel metrics — these are the words that map your technical work to a business outcome a hiring manager cares about.
The bullet formula for data analyst impact
Every bullet should answer: what did you measure, what did you change, and what moved as a result. Vague verbs like "analyzed," "monitored," and "supported" without a number attached are the single biggest reason otherwise-qualified analyst resumes stall at 60% match.
- Weak: "Created dashboards to track sales performance."
- Strong: "Built a Power BI dashboard tracking daily sales across 6 regions, replacing a manual Excel report and cutting the weekly reporting cycle from 3 days to same-day."
- Weak: "Performed data analysis to improve customer retention."
- Strong: "Ran cohort analysis in Python/pandas on 18 months of transaction data, identifying a drop-off pattern that led to a retention campaign improving month-2 retention by 7 percentage points."
Three mistakes that quietly tank a data analyst ATS score
These show up constantly in resumes that otherwise have solid experience behind them.
- Tool-name mismatch: writing "Excel" when the JD says "Advanced Excel" or "MS Excel" — spell it out both ways once in your skills section so either token matches.
- No metrics on reporting work: dashboards and reports without an adoption number, time saved, or accuracy improvement read as task lists, not achievements.
- Burying SQL under "other skills": if the JD lists SQL as a top requirement, it belongs in the first line of your skills section, not the last.
Adjust the resume by experience level, not just by role title
A fresher-to-1-YOE analyst resume should lean on academic and internship projects with the same bullet discipline shown above. A 2-4 YOE analyst should lead with business impact and start naming stakeholders influenced. An analyst moving toward product or strategy roles should add a line connecting analysis work to a decision that was made because of it — that is the signal a product-adjacent hiring manager is scanning for.
The one artifact that beats every other analyst credential: a public portfolio
A certification tells a recruiter you sat through a course. A public dashboard tells them you can actually do the job — and it is the single fastest way to stand out in a stack of analyst resumes that all list the same four tools.
Publish one real Tableau Public dashboard or a GitHub repo with a documented pandas notebook analyzing a public dataset — Kaggle datasets on retail, transit, or e-commerce work well. Link it directly under your name at the top of the resume, not buried in a footer.
- Keep the linked project title outcome-focused: "Retail Sales Dashboard — Identified a 12% regional stockout pattern" reads better than "Tableau Practice Project."
- If you do not have a live company dashboard to show due to confidentiality, this public portfolio project is what you show instead — it is not a downgrade, most hiring managers expect it for candidates under 2 years of experience.
A before-and-after: one weak analyst resume section, rewritten in full
Seeing the full transformation side by side makes the pattern easier to copy than any single rule.
- Weak summary: "Detail-oriented data analyst with good Excel and SQL skills, looking for a challenging role."
- Strong summary: "Data Analyst with 2 years' experience building SQL-driven reporting pipelines and Power BI dashboards for retail operations teams, cutting manual reporting time by 60%."
- Weak bullet: "Responsible for maintaining sales reports for the management team."
- Strong bullet: "Automated a weekly sales report using SQL and Power BI, replacing 3 hours of manual Excel work with a same-day refresh, adopted by 4 regional managers."
- Weak bullet: "Worked on customer data to help the marketing team."
- Strong bullet: "Segmented 50,000+ customer records by purchase frequency using Python/pandas, feeding a targeted campaign that lifted repeat-purchase rate by 9%."
Score it against a real JD before you apply
Paste an actual data analyst job description into Career Copilot's ATS score checker against your resume. You will see exactly which tool names and business-context keywords are missing — not a generic percentage with no explanation.
